sample the local cuisine or browse the shops
Restaurants serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and often have live music in the evenings. Their specialties include local Yucatan dishes, fresh seafood, Italian cuisine, and traditional Mexican fare as well as burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and nachos. Remember you are on “caribbean time” so service is often slow. Water and ice are safe here but we recommend using bottled water, which is readily available, for drinking.
For shopping, stroll around the local shops and boutiques featuring silver, talavera pottery, handmade jewlery, textiles, and clothing. Take home some delicious Mayan Honey or the famous Mexican Vanilla. Internet cafes, pharmacys, small supermarkets, and car rental agencies are all within easy walking distance.
The Dolphin Discovery and Sealife Programs located in the center of the marina area offer interactive opportunities and educational programs with Dolphins, Sea Lions, Manatees, and Stingrays.
ATMs and money exchanges are also in the marina area. Many smaller shops and restaurants do not accept credit cards but will accept cash in good condition (no tears or writing and no foreign currency coins). Those that do, usually accept Visa, MC, and occasionally, American Express. Dive Aventuras accepts Visa, Mastercard, travelers checks, Euros, Pounds, and US dollars.
